Barboursville Vineyards is one of Virginia’s premier wine-touring experiences. The 18th Century estate is a breathtaking climax to a beautiful and historic country drive from any direction. The entire estate is open for tastings while strolling throughout or setting up for a picnic. Informed and enthusiastic hosts present tastings in the Tuscan Tasting Room 7 days a week and in Library 1821, Wednesday through Monday.
Led since its inception in 1976 by third-generation vintner Luca Paschina, Barboursville Vineyard is Virginia’s most decorated wine-maker. It’s spectrum of wines has won too many Governor’s Cups to count, and the handiwork owes much to Paschina who cultivates the best of what his soil and seasons allow.
The Tasting Room is where the broadest range of current vintages will be introduced. Whereas Library 1821 presents a changing selection of flights of older vintages from the cellars of Barboursville Vineyards, with bite-sized culinary pairings designed by the chefs. Visitors are encouraged to enjoy wines in the truly splendid lawns surrounding the historic Landmark Ruins of Thomas Jefferson’s mansion for Governor James Barbour, just a pleasant stroll away. Better yet, make a full weekend of it by staying in one of the on-site cottages.
