By consensus, Ivy Inn is among Charlottesville’s finest restaurants. Opened by Farrell and Angelo Vangelopoulos in 1995, the 19th-Century farmhouse, red and understated, on Old Ivy Road has been a reliable respite for fine dining ever since. When you step in the door, a warmth and style greet you, as if you’ve arrived at your grandmother’s home. Soft light and kitchen aromas confirm you’ve arrived, and once seated, Ivy Inn’s menu — described by the owners as “an extension of our experiences” and “reflection of our mood” — reads with the detail of a fine novel. A compelling array of appetizers, salads, pastas, mains, and sides assure that the early dinner hours are reverent and hushed, while an extensive wine list and veritable coronation of desserts (including a fetching crème brûlée we found here) assure a celebratory crescendo by night’s end.
