1799 is the name of the restaurant at The Clifton Inn. It is also the year The Clifton was built. We consider it a prime Charlottesville discovery.
1799 has long held a reputation as one of Charlottesville’s finest dining experiences. Today it is led by a new, talented chef, Aaron Bellizzi, who comes to Charlottesville after an impressive tour that includes Philadelphia, New York, The Cloisters in Sea Island, and Keswick Hall.
He plans to follow 1799’s tradition of multi-course combinations of worldly flavors. An emphasis on local ingredients sets the stage for a classic dining experience with a modern twist. It features seasonal menus with farm to table selections and wines from Clifton’s award-winning cellar for each course. The restaurant offers multiple dining atmospheres, including the hearth dining room, the French windowed conservatory-style Verandah, and the outdoor view from the covered Terrace Porch.
Arrive early to enjoy a cocktail at the Copper Bar or stroll the gardens and grounds of this historic spot just above the Rivanna River.
