Littlejohns Deli

Boy, do we miss Littlejohns, like Fellinis, Sloans, and The Cotton Exchange, a vaunted Charlottesville name of the past. Eventually, all things come to an end, and this original Charlottesville deli that

specialized equally in gourmet sandwiches and arcane culture, turned out the lights gradually after Covid. More recently, Littlejohn’s passage has been lumped into the sinking ship which is Stefan Friedman’s multi-restaurant enterprise, Moveable Feast. Alast, all movement of these restaurants has ceased.

Littlejohn’s on the UVA Corner has been a go-to destination for hand-crafted subs and sandwiches featuring deli-style flavors since 1976. Across the street from the University of Virginia campus, aka Central Grounds, Littlejohns is Charlottesville’s most trusted name for gourmet sandwiches.

UVA Connection

Both current owners of Littlejohns are Hoos. Bill Smyth was a swimmer for the Cavaliers in the 1990s and recently returned to Charlottesville with a passion for what was a favorite spot for him in his undergraduate years.

Littlejohns has meant great sandwiches and subs on The Corner for over 50 years. It’s back after a hiatus during Covid, but now it’s returned in full flavor. You see? Lightening can strike twice!
