is Charlottesville’s newest place for great donuts & coffee drinks with a few NJ-inspired baked goods thrown in for good measure. This sparkling donut shop showcases owner Melissa Portera’s passion for baking. It also reveals a natural curiosity and creative spirit — essential ingredients for a donut shop out of central casting with unique charisma and a modern flair!
Background
Melissa and her husband moved to Charlottesville in the Covid summer of 2020. She made a career-shifting connection with the local bakery MarieBette, where she found great pleasure in shaping confections and baking perfection.
She was a quick learner and the MarieBette owners Jason Becton and Patrick Evans not only promoted her entrepreneurial instincts, in the summer of 2024 they joined her in opening Sbrocco’s, named after Melissa’s family in Italy as a way to carry on the name.
Location and Menu
The daily menu includes flavorful brioche and cake donuts, a not-to-be missed apple fritter, seasonal specialties, giant cookies, and espresso, along with other coffee drinks. The interior is bright, with a street-facing counter where you can immediately try your treats
if you don’t want to delay the sweet delight. Located in the old Anna’s Pizza space on Maury Avenue in Fry’s Spring.
