The Jervey is the newest dining option in Charlottesville’s historic Belmont neighborhood, joining sister establishments Belle and Ciaccia.
The restaurant is lovingly named after co-owner Andy McClure’s grandmother, Jean Jervey Fraser. The grande dame Mrs. Jervey Fraser credited her long life of 104 years to the core belief that every day is a chance to have a good experience. With McClure Family resolve, The Jervey intends your evening experience to be both glamorous and flavorful.
The menu focuses on dry-aged premium steaks with creative sauces, potato and veggie sides. It also includes shareable starters (the Spinach “toaster strudel” is a must), soups, salads, seafood and pasta dishes, and a curated wine list.
The Jervey is a converted gas station with porte cochere that unexpectedly delivers the intoxicating ambiance of a tony New York hotel lobby bar and restaurant. A triptych of classical paintings is centered along the back bar. Further up, shelves of books, pictures in frames, and decanters above overlook a team of diligent bartenders.
Tending bar is a McClure-brother speciality. At one end is a busy open kitchen, sizzling with sound and flavor. From there, the energy pours into adjoining dining spaces, including a wing with retractable bay windows that let the night in. Nearby, an open patio awaits, giving patrons a prime view of the Belmont night scene.
“Though we specialize in meat, we offer something for everyone,” says McClure. “A great night out being our primary goal.” We think they nailed it.
