Skipping Rock Beer Co.

Founded by two brothers who grew up skipping rocks across the Elizabeth River in the Tidewater area before traveling across the state for an education at James Madison University, Jason and Kurtis McCall fell in love with the Blue Ridge Mountains. Clearly the grandeur and serenity could only be enhanced with delicious beer, and so In 2019 they opened their brewery and tasting room in the rolling hills 1 mile west of downtown Staunton. We strongly encourage you to visit here, where the McCalls roll out the red carpet to down-home hospitality and delicious beer. It’s what they call a “Worry Less. Live More” experience.

When the McCall brothers convinced master brewer Ben Mullet to relocate from New Hampshire, Skipping Rock began to assert itself on the national state. Mullet’s experience and talent instantly translated into national recognition from the 2020 Great American Beer Festival for their Baltic Porter (Gold) — robust and lagered to “decadent” perfection — and their Amber Lager (Bronze) — “toast, nuttiness, subtle caramel” — against a field of America’s top craft brewers.

When touring Virginia, make a stop at Skipping Rock to enjoy their delicious lagers and ales served alongside friendly Virginia hospitality inside their tasting room or outside in the beer garden. While you’re there, be sure to catch a glimpse of Ben Mullet’s pristine brew house next door!
