Kluge-Ruhe is the only museum of its kind in the United States: the nation’s top-notch collection of Indigenous Australian art. It is the world’s oldest continuous art tradition, more than 60,000 years in the making, but the artwork is also diverse, sophisticated, dynamic and contemporary.

The museum has caught the interest of collector-celebrity Steve Martin, who called Kluge-Ruhe one of his favorite places in Virginia! The current exhibit (thru Feb 2023) includes an essay by Martin about a piece from his private collection.

While the space is on the smaller side, exhibitions change constantly and the museum works closely with Indigenous artists, making the experience even richer. Situated nearish to Monticello with a beautiful backyard view of the city and a one-of-a-kind gift shop.
