One block from Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall, McGuffey Art Center awaits all art lovers!
One of America’s oldest art cooperatives, McGuffey, as its popularly known, is housed in a historic primary school building, first opened its doors in 1975. Today, the building hosts 53 renting artists whose studios are open to the public and FREE to access. Additionally, the organization includes 100+ associate members, as well as 6 incubator artists.
Each month, new exhibitions are featured in the Sarah B. Smith gallery and the hallway galleries. The new work is showcased on First Fridays, where visitors can enjoy refreshments and speak with the artists. McGuffey Art Center strives to foster the creative growth of the greater Charlottesville community through teaching classes and workshops, participating in and hosting events, and encouraging community outreach.
