Afghan Kabob is two exotic restaurants in Charlottesville. One is Afghan Kabob Palace. The second is Afghan Kabob House. Both are owned by Mohammad Shafigi, who has a marvelous American story. He immigrated to Charlottesville from Afghanistan in 2014. A talented and entrepreneurial cook, Mohammad’s purpose is to deliver service, love and hospitality through the cultural expression of his restaurant. In both settings, his achievement is obvious and will bring you back over and again.
Afghan Kabob Palace
Opened in 2021, this restaurant is directly across Emmet Street from John Paul Jones Arena. The Palace specializes in kabobs and vegetarian dishes, but also provides a wide variety of delicious and authentic Afghan foods to choose from. With a lengthy lunch and dinner menu, as well as an excellent lunch buffet, Afghan Kabob is perfect for a casual date night or a time to try new food. You can park right in front! The restaurant also offers catering and delivery.

Afghan Kabob House
Mohammad’s newest restaurant opened in the Summer of 2025 in one of Charlottesville’s most storied restaurant spaces, the old Felinnis. Located at 200 W Market Street, at the corner of 2nd and Market Streets, the mystical memories of Felinnis mix with a striking new Middle Eastern vibrance. Stepping inside from the bright eastern-facing doorway, you will be greeted with an exotic display of original artwork, rugs, and traditional fashion beneath soft rhythms of rubab and tabla. A member of the wait staff will greet you immediately and show you to a table in one of two spacious rooms. Tempting aromas waft from the kitchen so that you’ll lean into either a healthy lunch buffet similar to the Palace with kabobs, rice and curries, vegetable dishes and salads. An expansive lunch and dinner menu will allow you to refine your order, and don’t forget to taste their selection of coffees and teas.
We highly recommend you try either of the Afghan Kabob locations and experience an exotic cuisine that finds a welcomeness in that reflects Charlottesville’s embrace of diverse cultural expression.
